I have worked with John in the past on trim and mouldings in our century home. Recently we were thrilled that he could restore some pillars that were rotten on our porches. John and his team were fantastic. They were always professional, polite, early, tidy, and my husband and I were both thrilled with the quality of the custom deck they built for us. We requested a custom corner bench, as well as glass railings and we were very happy with their work throughout the whole job. It was especially impressive that they built the whole deck within 2 weeks and in time for a party we hosted with only the glass ordered to arrive later as John explained when we started the job. I am very satisfied with Mississauga Decks and Trim. My first contact with the company was both a surprise and a delight. When I phoned MDT to inquire about having a composite deck built, I expected what usually happens when one calls a business – i.e. leaving a message on voicemail and then waiting for a return call -- sometimes, one that never comes. This wasn’t the case at all with MDT: John Morrissey, the owner of the company, answered my call directly and spent a good twenty minutes answering my questions and asking questions himself to ascertain the scope of the project. He set an appointment for the next day. At that appointment, he examined the surroundings (e.g. house colour, tree canopy, etc.), carefully took measurements, explained options, made recommendations about design and materials, listened to my requests, answered more questions and provided valuable insight so that I could make informed decisions. He was honest, patient and personable. He didn’t try to upsell me, and he spent time investigating whether composite gates had evolved to a point where one might be a viable option. John returned on subsequent visits with samples of composite and railing. He provided me with an estimate, which clearly outlined a payment schedule. I appreciated his professionalism. When the contract was signed, the project moved forward. MDT arranged for the utility locates. My existing wooden deck was demolished; helical piles were installed; a new sub-structure was built; and chicken wire was also installed as an underground barrier against marauding animals. At the end of the project, I had a beautiful composite, picture-frame deck with boards set on a 45-degree angle, a complementary aluminum railing with a drink rail, and a self-closing gate. John and his crew, Art and Alonzo, worked tirelessly in both extreme heat and cold. They listened respectfully to my ongoing questions and provided answers; they explained what they were doing and why. I appreciated that they took time to help me understand the process. When I had a concern about three of the boards being a slightly different colour, the issue was addressed and resolved, to my satisfaction. As is often the case with construction projects, there were some inevitable delays; when this happened, John once more kept me informed as to what was happening and why. He always answered emails and returned phone calls. MDT also took my schedule into consideration when scheduling their work, and I appreciated that very much. Moreover, I always felt that my project was important to MDT, even though it was on a smaller scale than many of their projects. Before my final payment, I received a revised estimate that was somewhat lower than what was originally quoted. This was because, when the old deck was demolished, it was determined that fewer helical piles were needed than originally thought. This downward adjustment of the cost is yet another proof of John’s honesty and integrity. I recommend John Morrissey and MDT without reservation to anyone seeking a knowledgeable, experienced, highly skilled team of deck-building professionals, whose work is superb and for whom customer satisfaction is of paramount importance.
